Practical articles on margin, execution and reading the market — each one linked to a hands-on tool or Academy course.
Why unified margin changes how you size positions
On a traditional isolated-margin account every position needs its own margin, even when two positions hedge each other. Unified margin looks at the whole portfolio: a long BTC position partly hedged by a short ETH position carries less net risk, so it needs less margin.
The practical result is capital efficiency — but it also means one losing position can draw on collateral backing the others. Always check your account-level margin ratio, not just the position.
TWAP vs. VWAP: choosing an execution algorithm
TWAP slices a large order into equal pieces over a fixed time window — simple and predictable. VWAP weights the slices by expected volume, trading more when the market is busiest, which usually reduces market impact.
Use TWAP when you want steady execution regardless of activity; use VWAP when you want to match the market’s natural volume profile. For hiding size in the book, an Iceberg order is often the better tool.
Reading an order book in 60 seconds
Bids (green) are buyers, asks (red) are sellers, and the gap between the best bid and best ask is the spread. Thick walls of size show where liquidity sits; a thin book means your market order could move the price.
In the Pro Desk, the depth chart shows cumulative liquidity on each side — a quick way to spot imbalance before you trade.
The liquidation waterfall, explained
Liquidation is not a single event. As your margin ratio falls you receive warnings, then positions are partially reduced to restore health, and only if that fails is the account fully liquidated.
Knowing the stages lets you act early — add collateral, reduce leverage or close the riskiest position first.
